After three months in Athens as a volunteer with Hellenic Youth Participation, my time is now up. Having spent my last weekend in Thessaloniki to get an experience of the second largest city of Greece, I am now doing my last week. It is a weird feeling. Since uprooting after three months requires some preparation, I have started removing things from the walls, packing down, and giving away the last food I won’t be able to eat. Seeing the apartment getting more and more empty makes it hard to fall back into my regular way of life. Considering all the things that I appreciate about Athens, I am thinking a lot about how to spend my last days. It is not just social, cultural and food experiences I want to experience one last time, but also the work-related activities, where I have grown attached to both people in Forum, the Roma community and, of course, my colleagues. With mixed feelings I am slowly counting the hours until my plane takes off with direction towards Brussels.
